Yiddish Reading Group

6 Webster St. Brookline, MA 02446

The Yiddish reading group that meets at Boston Workers Circle is inviting new members. We are about to start reading Mendel Mann’s “Kerner in Midber” (Seeds in the Desert). Published in 1966, it is a series of autobiographical stories that goes backward in time from his settlement in Israel in 1948, back to his time in Russia during and after WWII, and finally, back to his childhood in Poland.

We meet Friday mornings at the Workers Circle from 10:30am - 12:00pm. In December, we will meet on 12/13 and 12/20. After that we will resume meeting in January.

The Mann book is available free online at the National Yiddish Book Center archives: https://www.yiddishbookcenter.org/collections/yiddish-books/spb-nybc208442/mann-mendel-kerner-in-midber-dertseylungen.

It has also been newly translated and published by the NYBC: https://shop.yiddishbookcenter.org/collections/yiddish-in-translation/products/seeds-in-the-desert-by-mendel-mann

Discussion is in English. Anyone who has taken an advanced Yiddish class at the Workers' Circle or has similar proficiency should be able to manage well in the group. If you would like more information about the group you can write to Mark Stewart madestew@gmail.com or call him at 617-710-2447.
