"Judaism has never been solely a religion to me. It’s a people, a culture, and a religion, kind of like a state of being. It helps me locate myself in the world."
For 2012-13 we are initiating the 2nd Friday Shabes Dinners, which are being held on the second Friday of each month. The vision for these shabes gatherings, based on last year's community meeting about spirituality, is to mark the week's end and provide the community with a time to reflect, relax and connect. All are welcome!
The evening will start at 6:30 pm with time to settle in and schmooze. A shabes ceremony will start at 7 pm followed by a potluck dinner at about 7:45 pm. Come for the ceremony or the potluck dinner or both. A sample ritual program booklet can be downloaded here.
The year's schedule is:
All dinners this year are currently planned for the Boston Workmen's Circle building to accommodate the wonderful turn-out, but check the calendar for details about each month's gatherings (here).
Please bring a dish to share when you join us for Shabes. No time to cook? Many of us bring takeout! We’ll provide the wine, juice, and challah.
Each monthly shabes gathering is organized by two community members who will customize the ceremony as they wish. If you are interested in organizing a future shabes ceremony at BWC or in your home, please contact Rosa Blumenfeld (rosa.blumenfeld@gmail.com) or Marsha Lazar (marsha336@msn.com).
