Holidays

Members of our community have created secular observances for a unique calendar of Jewish holidays and historic anniversaries. Holiday programs weave together secular readings, reflections, and music that draw on Jewish tradition as well as contemporary texts to create rituals that feel meaningful and authentic.

Our community, the sense of being connected to something larger than our individual lives, is a source of spirituality.

And it is our commitment to a more just and humane world in which we renew our faith.
  • Observe the High Holidays in our secular services that attract over 400 participants each year.
  • An additional Family Service for children un 10 is held on Rosh Hashanah.
  • Light a candle for a better world at the Shule Chanukah party.
  • Consider the importance of environmental awareness and sustainable living through our Tu B'Shvat Seder.
  • Make noise in a rowdy call for justice and joy at the Gragger/Noisemaker, our annual Purim concert and dance.
  • Celebrate the many social movements fighting for humanity at a Passover Community Seder with our ever-evolving, original haggadah.
  • Honor the Jewish resistance to the Holocaust on the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
  • Stand up for workers’ rights on May Day, as the Workmen’s Circle has done for more than 100 years.
Interested in contributing readings or creative ideas to our holiday programs? We invite you to contact the Ritual Committee through the Workmen's Circle office.
