“There are a lot of organizations doing political organizing, but I think we’re working on something different here in terms of talking about it as a community. It really struck home for me when we had the Shabbat dinner for gay and lesbian marriage.”
2nd Friday Shabes Dinner
6:30pm - gathering
7:00pm - ritual, followed by potluck dinner
Pot-luck dinner at 7:45. If you plan to stay for dinner, please bring a dish to share and whatever you would like to drink.
Following up on members' interest in fostering community and exploring the many facets of spirituality, a group has been planning monthly shabes gatherings. The second Friday of each month our community will mark the week's end, open to all. The evening will start at 6:30 pm with time to settle in and schmooze. A shabes ceremony will start at 7 pm followed by a potluck dinner at about 7:45 pm. Come for the ceremony or the potluck dinner or both.
RSVPs not necessary, but are helpful, especially for the potluck. RSVP to the office (firstname.lastname@example.org). A main dish will be supplied by the organizers. All others are asked to bring salads, side dishes, vegetables, desserts or drinks.
The vision for the shabes gathering is to provide the community with a time to reflect, relax and connect. Each monthly shabes gathering is organized by two community members who will customize the ceremony as they wish. If you are interested in organizing a future shabes ceremony at WC or in your home, please contact Rosa Blumenfeld (email@example.com) or Marsha Lazar (firstname.lastname@example.org).
